Scutellaria extract is derived from the dried roots of scutellaria in the Labiaceae family.  Scutellaria baicalensis is mainly produced in Gansu, Shaanxi, Hebei, Shanxi, Sichuan, Shandong, Inner Mongolia and northeast China, as well as eastern Siberia, Mongolia, Korea and Japan of the Soviet Union.  Production process of scutellaria extract: Cleaning, drying, grinding, extraction, decompression concentration, filtration, re-concentration, flow extract, spray drying, grinding, sieving, packaging.  

The quality standard of scutellaria extract is in accordance with the standard of Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2020 edition), and its main component is baicalin. Routine specifications: HPLC≥80%, HPLC≥85%, AND HPLC≥90%  

The extract of Scutellaria baicalensis is light yellow powder, odorless and bitter.  Baicalin melting point is 223 ℃ to 225 ℃, soluble in N - dimethyl formamide and pyridine, soluble in sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, such as in the alkaline solution, but instability in lye gradient is dark brown, slightly soluble in hot glacial acetic acid, soluble in formic acid, acetic acid, acetone, almost insoluble in water, ethyl ether, benzene, chloroform and other solvents.  

Baicalin has the functions of clearing heat and dampness, relieving fire and detoxifying.  Baicalin can be used in both medicine and cosmetics, which is a good functional cosmetic raw material.
